“Portrait Painting with David Gray”

David's signature style reveals a personal and contemporary expression of beauty and order which pays homage to the Classical Tradition in its craftsmanship. Collectors of David's work often relate that his painting evoke a sense of peace, stillness, or a contemplative mood. His award winning works have been covered by major art publications including Southwest Art, Art of the West, and American Art Collector. 

In this workshop students will work with David to construct a portrait painting from life over the course of five days. Building on an accurate drawing and progressing through the stages of color study, underpainting, overpainting, and final glazes and scumbles, David will take students through his professional working processes that he has developed and used throughout his career. Students will get plenty of one on one attention as well as watch David develop a demonstration painting. 

In addition students are encouraged to ask any other questions applicable to the art making process. In past workshops we have discussed other items such as: composition, how to take good photo reference material, the importance of drawing/painting from life, personal art making philosophy, and many other related topics.
